Re: 2002 Motor Trend car of the year?
Look at the list of Motor Trend Cars of the Year. For the most part they were innovative at the time. I actually own 2 of them, the 2002 T-Bird and 2005 Magnum. BOTH were discontinued early, but BOTH are terrific cars.
The Thunderbird, as Dot says, continues to put a smile on my face after 8 years, and continues to impress the people on the street. There has almost never been a time that I park the car in a public lot that someone doesn't comment, "Nice Car" or something else positive. I have NEVER heard a negative comment about the car.
Yes it was overly priced, and VERY poorly marketed by Ford. It was also caught in the Jack Nasser fiasco and I think that helped kill it as nobody at Ford wanted to stand behind the car at that time. Despite the original problems, it remains a great car and is an icon. The people buying them used are really getting a bargain classic now. Reading the newbee's comments, you can see that most are enjoying the car as we original buyers have been enjoying them.
C&D's comments about the suspension and design are unfounded. Just as with the original baby birds, the car was never intended to be a track machine but a comfortable cruiser. It is what it is as does what it does as it was designed to do. If you want a racer, but a Vette. How many passers-by say "nice car" about a Vette in a parking lot?

Canadian Provinces, 8 European Countries, 3 Caribbean Countries, Countless National Parks and have attended well over 100 TBN Events since 2001 and counting. Best of all ... fabulous friends.

This hurts - no offense to the platinum haired ladies with small dogs. Maybe this is a reason to turn all of the driving of the Tbird over to the wife.
