Re: AVERAGE AGE OF T BIRD OWNERS

I was 14 when I fell in love with my next door neighbors Brand new Black '56 Tbird, porthole top, continental kit and dual exhaust through its rear bumper. 50 years later I got my first one, a 2005 Evening Black with Sand Top and Interior. It had 10,000 miles on it and now it is close to 48,000, boy do I love to drive this car. Oh by the way at 47,000 miles the stock mufflers start sounding like Borlas. So if you want to save money, just drive your car on a few long road trips!

Where's the poll? This would be a great one.

Something like: What was your age when you bought your first RETRO?

          A fun thread I was 85 last May . Bought my 2004 bird when I was 83.
Let's see if anyone out there is an older bird lover than me.
At age 36 I bought my first new bird, a 1960 convert which I still have.

            Hi there,

When I was born I was 0 and now I'm 50. That makes the average age of this T-Bird owner 25.

Or is that just wishful thinking ?

Gordon. (I was 48 when we bought ours).

Bought my 2004 at 44 yo. First "fun" car ever. I work a lot, so don't drive it much. I bought it in October 2008 with 28k miles, now has 29.5k in Aug 2009. Lots of fun though when i'm in it.

I WAS 22 WHEN I GOT MY FIRST THUNDERBIRD IN 1965, IT WAS AN ALL BLACK 1956, AND I JOINED CTCI. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET CTCI #1056. ANOTHER ALL WHITE 56 FOLLOWED AND WENT FOR THE DOWN PAYMENT ON A NEW HOUSE. SINCE THEN I HAVE OWNED OVER TWENTY OTHER THUNDERBIRDS, ONE OF THEM AN ALL RED 55. IN 1978 I WAS ASSIGNED TO THE THUNDERBIRD CARLINE AND OVER THE NEXT TWENTY-ONE YEARS I HELPED BUILD OVER TWO MILLION THUNDERBIRDS, IN CHICAGO, LOS ANGELES, AND LORAIN, OHIO. I WAS THE PRODUCTION SUPERINTENDENT IN THE LORAIN PLANT WHEN WE BUILT THE LAST 1997 THUNDERBIRD. LAST YEAR WE STARTED ADDING THE NEW BIRDS TO OUR FLEET AND AFTER FIVE, WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THE RIGHT 2005. OTHER CARS ARE: 54 LINCOLN CAPRI CONVERTIBLE, 55 MERCURY HARDTOP, 55 FORD COUNTRY SEDAN WAGON, 79 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE CONVERTIBLE, 84 COUNTRY SQUIRE WAGON, AND A 50 FORD F-6. ONCE I OWNED A 1978 INDY 500 PACE CAR, BUT I DON'T TALK ABOUT THAT. SO AT 66 WE ARE REALLY ENJOYING THE BIRDS.

Well, here is my tbird ownership history.
I took delivery of my 2002 in November 2001 at age 64.
I retired in 1996 at the age of 59 and purchased a 1957 Tbird, red with red interior, as a retirement gift to myself which I still have.
My first tbird was a 1988 white with red and black interior. Traded that Tbird in 1993 for a F150 pickup which I still own.

The 2002 Tbird has 47,000 miles and the 1957 has 117,000 miles and both run great. We still love to drive both Tbirds.

I bought my Caspian Blue 64 Thunderbird hardtop in 1967 at the age of 21, sold my 59 Vet for more comfort. Wish I kept the Vet too!

Still have the 64 Bird and she is still beautiful.

I retired at age 59 and purchased my 02 Triple Black in 2005, yet another 3 year old car I purchased seems history repeats itself.

So now like my first Thunderbird I am a 64. Guess that makes me pretty average.

                      Gord R.

We bought our first T Bird, a 1966 new , I was 38. Bought a used 1966 when I was 77, then when I was 82 I bought 2004 Merlot, with hard top. I did not keep either of the 1966s, but have no plans to sell the 2004, plan on leaving it to my three Grandkids and let them fight over it. I bought the 2004 from a widow, her husband was only 64 when he died.
