Re: Skirts - What do you think.

I remember as a kid we were helping someone change a flat. They had an old Buick 4dr. with skirts.we couldn't release the skirts after pulling the handle down.We opened the back door and there was a bolt same size as a lug nut holding the skirt to the body.

I remember back in the 50's guys would but razor blades on the handle that would release the skirt. Unsuspecting theives would be in for a big surprise.

          Okay Charles...back to your question...

I've thought about fender skirts for a long time, and used to think I wanted them. Now, I'm glad I didn't.

But, the bottom line is that if you think you do, get them. It's not like you can't take them off, and put them back on as your mood changes.

Our Birds look great with the hardtop on, and when we decide to take it off, it's like driving a new car! Fender skirts can make you feel the same way. You won't know if you like them, till you try them!

For all the members who like 'fender skirts' this may take you back to a time when they were more popular. (o/k, anyone else as well if you are old enough)

Thanks!! I was really fortunate to get her. Fascinating (but long) story of her "growing up" in Buckroe Beach in Hampton Va. which is across the Chesapeake Bay from where I live on Willoughby Spit in Norfolk, Va and then her return to the area.

Even more astounding is that Dot, from the group, was quite instrumental in helping me to get the job I have now. This job is what allowed me to be able to save the money to get "Mable" and bring her home. That was about 11 years ago and I didn't realize it until I got on this group.

So I am, as much and probably more so, thankful and grateful to Dot and her Porthole Authority site than anyone around. Another long story.

              Thanks again Dot!!

Just one other thing - Mable is, as far as is known, the only 1956 Thunderbird Green with Brown Interior from the factory. There are no others in the Thunderbird Registry and only a rumor of another one which had the interior changed back to the Green which all others have. Did you notice that Dot's 57 is green also?

              Talk about serendipity!!

Sally .... at my age I'd need more than luck. Plus, maybe a handful of those little blue pills.

Rick, at your (and my) age, be very careful of those little blue pills. They will give you a stiff neck.

Too Bad. Your missing a great opportunity to change up the UNIQUENESS with different looks. It's actually very easy too, One peg being spring loaded, for very simple on & off. And I got to tell ya all, I love showing up with a different look everytime, Top down, w/ skirts, w/o skirts, top up, ditto, HT on, ditto. Kinda freaks them all out :-)

If you go with "skirts".... you probably should get "mud flaps" too!

I don't have "mudflaps", but I do have "stone guards"
