It is a pretty one, probably a great car for someone.

Still off topic, so I will but it back on topic. Mine are worth more to me now than when I bought them.

Ditto, Ron. I can't imagine parting with mine, and though I've often wondered what I'd do with the Shelby if Charley were to go before I, there's no question now. I'll just have an abundance of vehicles till they carry my body off to the crematorium.

I'm pretty sure I'll go before Judge Judy so she can deal what to do with the Bird when I'm gone but she has orders to take me, after the oven thing, and spread the ashes over the Gulf.

Here's an 04 with a asking price under 13K. This car looks spotless in the showroom, with newer tires and all the goodies. The only thing I can see that is keeping the price down on this car is the mileage, 98,476. I believe this car could still be put under warranty, if will pass the Ford inspection? Ebay item # 251059895640. curent bid 10K

                        Re: Retro Birds Future Values

I just received this offer in the mail from a local Ford dealer. TBN members have been getting these types of letters. This is why I hate buying a Ford car, and I am sure it isn't much different at GM or Chrysler. First of all, see the letter where it mentions "2008 Tbirds or older". That gets me off to a bad start right there, but the real bone of contention is in this area Ford dealers use a "Black Book" ($17,800), and in my experience only dealers have access to them unless you get a subscription. That book gives absolutely the lowest value of any of the recognized guides that I have seen. That is the guide they used on my trade-in when I bought the 2005 Tbird in 2005, and I sat in the dealership for 5 hours trying to negotiate the deal basically because they were stuck on using that guide and not even giving me "excellent" condition for a 2004 car in perfect shape with 6000 miles. Kelly Blue Book means nothing to them, and they won't even consider that guide. The whole process of buying the car was so contentious that everybody was mad when the deal got done. I think that was a reason the car was delivered in such bad condition - empty gas tank, dirty, hardtop not secured at the left (driver side)corner. This was so bad I had to turn around and go right back. To be fair, this dealership has changed hands and is under new ownership, but they are still using that dreaded Black Book. The Kelley Blue Book has the "trade in value" at $21,900 (excellent/low mileage). That's the book that the Jaguar dealer used when traded in my 1999 XK8 and bought my new one in 2010. That transaction took about an 1 hour and everybody walked away happy or at least it seemed that way.

My wife went away from the Tbird transaction saying she would never go through something like that again - she will just send me to do the dirty work. Also to be fair to Ford, we have gone through some other bad new car purchase experiences at mainly Toyota dealerships in the 80s and 90s and part of it was caused by the use of that Black Book and its low-ball values.

I thought the value of these retro Birds was going up and not down. It's not a big deal to me because I want to keep it, but evidently the dealers don't value them very much or they want to "put the wood" to their customers.

                          Re: Retro Birds Future Values

Value is relative to what someone thinks about what is for sale. Someone that really wants a Tbird will pay premium for low mileage garage queens. I bought mine about a year ago with 35K on it. I love it and have no plans of selling any time soon. I bought the Premium service from Ford and have had several things fixed under that as well as 5 coils replaced under the extended warrnty on them. My car has to sit outside but it gets regular care and is protected top to bottom. I use Ragg Top on the top and Meguires Next Tech wax on the body. I replaced the brakes with ceramic pads and the polished chrome wheels stay relatively clean.

I get more comments on this car than any other car I have ever had. I get thumbs up regularlly by street people begging on the side of the road.

Some people just enjoy life and use things around as tools and dont worry about the value of a possession except as it relates to its use to them. A simple can opener can be your most valueable possession if you are hungry and only have a can of beans to eat.

We bought a new '67 Mustang Convertible loaded shortly after we were narried. My wife loved it but when first child came it had to go for a more "family" car. She had wanted another one for over 40 years until we bought our 04 t-bird for half the price 2 years ago of a restored '67 Mustang, and even she admits its 10 times the car. And on top of that it's even less practical. She wouldn't trade it for 2 Mustangs and neither would I
