2003 Vin#s and production

My dealer gave me a printout of all the T-birds that were coming in whether they were assigned a vin no. yet or not - they were tracking the cars by the dealer order no.

The list had approx. 10 cars on it that had an order no. or standard dealer allocation no. and no vin no. Each of these had an approximate ETA - however mine was roughly a week later that the date quoted. So you should be able to get some rough information from your dealer even if no vin no. has been assigned yet.

last week, when brd4jk was visiting the plant, all 2003s were being held for "new model year" inspections - none were being shipped out even though they had "delivery dates". Duke 583 was taking the tour this week so when he reports back, we may know a little bit more.

Last year, the first cars were held for about 6 weeks prior to first deliveries while they were re inspected because they were a new model, then another glitch occurred and they were held another 2 months.

the waiting for delivery once built has always seemed the longest for everyone on this board.

Just got back from the Wixom tour last night. We drove out Monday, spent the night at the Baymont Inn across from the plant (Dave Davis got us a $69 rate), and toured the plant yesterday morning.
This is a fantastic tour for Tbird buyers only (according to Dave). Dave gave the tour just for Sandy and I, and we spent about 3 hours with him. It is really exciting to see all of the Birds go down the line, see how they are put together, and talk to some of the workers who are making them The funniest comment I got from one was "Be careful, this car goes really fast."
Many of the workers thanked us for purchasing this car. Jerry, sorry, I did not see the above post before I left, so did not say hello to Jim. Unfortunately, our car was in the paint area, and we did not actually see ours, but saw plenty of white ones in various stages of assembly, and pretended they were ours. They were making a lot of the new blue and grey ones. Red seemed to be the next most popular color. Interestingly, most of the cars we saw had the standard interior. They are producing about 50 a day at present, and working an 8 hour shift.
Dave said they are still holding all 03's for release. He said his guess (and only a guess) was that they would be released early next week. Apparently this is not unusual
for a new model.
I would urge all of you to try to find the time to take this tour. It is the experience of a lifetime to be able to see how this car is produced, and talk to the people making it.

duke you said it. the best thing a bird owner could do is to take the tour. and being able to stay across the street from the plant at baymount was great. duke what did you think of the bird on the roof with the ls and the lincoln town car? but the tour would be interesting also to the ls and town car owner being that they are built on the other side of the bird.

Te42 GREAT! Now, could you tell us if you had any choice on hardtop color? or does the package come only with the white hardtop?

I spoke with Te42 last night by telephone. He told me that his dealer order acknowledgement receipt shows it with a white hardtop. He was going over the receipt and had questions about the standard features on the 007 edition, including whether or not the select-shift transmission is standard or not. He also noted that the receipt listed the seats as having white inserts, with charcoal seat bolsters. I thought that the 007 editions were to have solid white seats? It'll be interesting to find out what features and options are available on this special edition model. It'll be especially nice to see this car in person in 2003 and I'm sure that it will be part of our "Thunderbird Destination 2003" event!:pink:

that's news on the seats; I, too had always thought they'd be full white seats as the real 007 car had. Looking more and more like Halle Berry ended up with a very unique car if the reports are true that she was given the car.

I haven't really seen anything written about what the package for the 007 includes so his order sheet is the best we have for what's included on the car. I understand it's a package deal so you get what you get - same as the NM model.

The new Ford ad shows full white seats.... You have to look very very carefully as there is a movie scene shown overlayed over the interior shot - but they are definitely full white....

But then again the same ad shows the dash as having the '02 style gauges and not the '03's.

It is quite possible that Ford is using one code for White interior and they will differentiate the 007 cars on the line.

regarding the Tbird on the roof at the Wixom plant; with all the snow, we were just glad to see the plant. never saw anything on the roof. the car sitting out front was white. what color was the one on the roof?

I just spoke with "Te42" and he has yet another option to purchase a 2nd, Bond-Edition Thunderbird. He's not going to take the 2nd one, but if there's anyone looking for one you might want to send him an e-mail or a "U2U" message through this forum.:pink:

Duke, The 02 on the roof of the Wixom plant is red, wonder if they'll change it for 2003?

My 007 order shows coral w/performance white hard top, and oxford white seats. The only option available is 210A, which includes hard top, htd seats, leather steering wheel AM/FM sterio cd audiophile system. the tiptronic trans is included, as are P235/50VR17 BSM tires. Mine is shown as priority 12, ordered
Oct 31, and accepted by Ford computer the same day. Still no vin#, but haven't talked to dealer lately.
