Gene, Not sure how this works out mathematically. Using Dot's site these are the production numbers.

    2002: 31,368 units
    2003,2004,2005 combined: 36,730 units

Spence, is it possible the location of the owner might make a difference? For example, because our climate is so dry here in the southwest, humidity doesn't have much impact. Just a cursory review of comments so far, all the problems seem to be in locations with higher humidity...could be coincidental, put perhaps it's not...hmmmmm. Perhaps the humidity is a catalyst to the problem, perhaps not. Just a thought

Spence - The overall size of the lots (number built) doesn't have any statistical impact assuming our birds were randomly drawn from that large pool. However, the greater statistical problem is the "randomness" in which someone will respond to your poll. It is more likely that someone who is aware/concerned about COPs will decide to open this thread and vote. That person may have had a COPs problem or is familiar enough to want to vote/reply/see the results. This would cause a non-random sampling; however, since we can't control this, your survey is about the best that can be easily done.

One other thing this poll does is allow owners without a problem to voice that. All that has been posted up till now is just about owners that have had problems. I think there are many out there that haven't had any problems with the Cops. This may or may not give a more balanced picture of things.

02 T-BIrd, Torch Red, 106,000 miles. Four COPs replaced, 5 to go. One COP was replaced before I got it but they put in another 513 rather than a 529 or the Borg Warner. I am hoping that Weapon X comes through before I replace them all. Cylinder 1 just started acting up.

If you are lucky enough to have multiple cars the poll will take more then one vote.

This poll was requested because of the engine difference between the 02's and the 03/04/05's. this is the reasoning behind the poll.

Correct Jay. I have an '02, trouble free and voted when the thread came out.
I did not post anything because I had nothing to post - So not everyone who votes, regardless of reason, will necessessarily post any other info

*I do not consider my one 2004 COP that was cutting out occasionally as a problem at 58,000 miles. It wasn't triggering an engine light but my dealer changed it anyway. He said there was no water or oil involved.

Our '02 had all eight COP's replaced (using aftermarket warranty) when 7 were found to be bad in Feb. 2010.

This 04 PCR has only been driven in good weather, no rain and no snow. 19000 mi. and so far no COP problem.

                        Roger,

Your response sort of puts a monkey wrench in the data. From what has been posted in the past, most COP failures start out as intermittent, plenty of them haven't triggered engine lights and many have not had oil/water in the wells.

You had the initial symptoms and your dealer changed it out (which most won't do without being certain they are failing because FORD won't warranty them otherwise), yet you voted that you haven't had a problem.

Come on, man........you had a COPS problem. No need to be in denial.

I had my first cop failure recently and I did not have an engine light. All I noticed was the engine missing at times. It was covered by the Ford 100,000 warranty on cops.

To me it's pretty obvious that the COPs problem is related to mileage more than anything else. There seem to be a lot of other factors that cause the failures, but they're usually well driven cars, not garage Queens. Just my opinion. Leroy

After i purchased mine over a year ago and found this site right after and reading the post available i knew i had a bad cop. There was no engine light just a slight hesitation going up hill.I didn't want to change one only to have another go out so i just changed them all myself.

Our '02 has run flawlessly ....... no problems.

Our '04 has lost one coil.
