Oh, I didn't mean you, Ron (we all know you know your colors - you have most of them )! The members I'm referring to are newer (and probably a lot younger than most of us).
    "Infractions" I've noticed are:
    Burgundy (Merlot)
    Teal ('02 Blue)
    Tan (Cashmere)
Robins egg blue (Desert Sky Blue)
    Metallic green ('02 blue)

Are there any retro bird colors that are used on other Ford nameplates?
If so is the name of the color the same in these cases or does Ford rename the color for a Lincoln, Ford, Mercury etc?

Re: semi rant on color names

Some of those aren't bad infractions of the name since Ford renamed Robin's Egg Blue to Desert Sky Blue just for our Thunderbirds though Ford did change the color slightly and added pearl to the color... and teal is a good rep for the Thunderbird blue, Metallic green though is a stretch as I would envision that color being closer to the PCR's color (colour for you Canadians).

Tan confused me - as I can take pictures of the cashmere and it'll turn out looking tan. On the other hand, tan metallic isn't too far off for "bronze". The two "tans" I noticed on Autotrader were describing Bronze cars. Gold is passable as long as people don't confuse the color with Inca Gold.

Gary, I get a kick out of "persperation" yellow. Sounds like someone was trying to recall the name they heard for it in the past and could only come up with that.

One of my pet peeves for sure. I love it when I ask what color they have and they say Blue...I just give up after that.

I wonder if DavidA knows what color his car is. Is it Black, Midnight Black, Star mist Black or what? Maybe it's Roadrash Black.

I just posted a New Orleans cragslist link I saw for a "Champagne" hard top from an 04. I am guessing the poster had a PCR or a Platinum Silver bird to start with. Said he put the top in storage the day he got the car and then lost his car later in the Katrina flood.

The one that comes immediately to mind is the green color of the PCR.

It is called Monterey Mist on the PCR and it is called Light Tundra on Mercurys.

Another is the Torch Red on the Thunderbird was called Colorado Red on some other Ford product at some point. My tube of touch-up paint is labeled Colorado Red.

I have always wished Ford had kept the name Raven Black rather than changing it to Evening Black ....

Ron, that reminded me of the couple who pulled in to the hotel back in '08 at Savannah Thunder who were not TBN folks. They did not know that the '04 they were driving was a convertible... had no clue until some of the TBN folks convinced them.

Also, a couple of years ago I was running with the hard top on and got pulled over by a county cop after running through his radar. Since I wasn't speeding I was interested in why he came out after me. He told me that he noticed my seat belt wasn't done up. I showed him that it was but he then said it was probably installed wrong since it did not anchor to the proper place in the car as he could tell it wasn't going up to close to the roof.

I explained to him that in a convertible there aren't too many places to anchor the belt other than back over the seat and then down. He then told me I wasn't driving a convertible.

We argued for a while and I offered to get out the owner's manual to show him the top instructions as I dammed sure didn't feel like unlocking the top. He backed down but still gave me a warning ticket for not having the seat belt latched.

Many people (mostly men) are color blind so I generally don't pay attention when someone comments on a color of anything we own. That said I still receive compliments on my Whisper White 'Bird. A man came up to me on Friday at the gas station and told me he just loved that 'retro creamy white Ford color'. I told him the minute I saw it in the showroom I thought exactly the same thing:).
