    Re: Comments about "Garage Qeens"

This is a subject that keeps coming up. What surprises me is that many members feel there is only one way to enjoy a Bird and that is by driving it. I choose, as many have done at some point, to drive my car only occasionally. Like Claude and others have suggested, my wife and I have four cars between us. Our Thunderbird is not a daily driver. The Bird is only used on weekends, when the weather permits. It has never seen rain in the more than ten years I have owed it. Still, I have enjoyed it to the tune of 40,000 miles. From experience, I know full well that the car imparts happiness whether you are simply looking at it in the garage or driving it down a twisting country lane. There is no wrong way to utilize the car.

Hear Hear Jerry, I'm with you. There is no wrong way to utilize the car. I as others have posted am puzzled by some folks thinking those of us that choose to own our cars until we can no longer drive becasue farther times gets us by limiting the mileage we put on them is a sin against birdum. I get my enjoyment out of having 2 pristine birds that I can look at with pride, spend hours upon hours cleaning with tooth picks, tooth brushes, lint rollers ... and when I do take those short trips around town I do so with my chest puffed out in pride when I look in other cars and see people pointing at my car or people walking stop to take a look. I don't think that's a sin, bad, evil or anything else negative, it's just how I enjoy my car which I paid for and am free to enjoy how I want to. I honor you folks that use them for daily drivers, on that rare occasion I see one go by, I stop and marvel at what a wonderful car it is.

We haven't figured that out either, Pink, but we do keep the Birds and Venomous covered.

As for the lack of mileage on my Birds, I just don't drive that much, but they both get driven every week. Venomous, however turned over 40K week before last. Charley let out a heavy sigh!

Our Thunderbird would be considered a garage Queen at 13,800 miles in 10 years and four months. We enjoy the Thunderbird when we can, we enjoy the friends the Thunderbird has made us Locally, Nationally, & Globaly. We couldn't afford 60 trips in the past 10 years. Maybe when we retire. We would then like to make more events. Love the T-Bird, but is a very uncomfortable car to drive long distances for me.

It always amazes me that after 10 years, our cars still get compliments and thumbs up. We had the top down during fall and a truck pulled up next to us and shouted, "Just wanted to tell you how cute you look in that car!"

              Re: Comments about "Garage Qeens"

I LOVE other peoples garage queens, after I put 80k on my 02 tbird I sold it and bought a lovingly cared for 03 garage queen with 3k miles on it from a TBN member.

I've got over 40k on this one so I will probably be looking for another one in 2 more years, so please do not drive your car so that it will have more miles left for me!

                Re: Comments about "Garage Qeens"

I tend to use mine on a weekly basis but most of the mileage is short trips within the city and a couple of long distance runs per season. Usually put 4k per year. I park mine in November and it comes back out in April. Rear wheel drive vehicles are lousy in snow. As for garage queens I guess if your looking at an investment by keeping it 25+ years than I can see the point of keeping mileage down. Just be careful of cars that don't run regularly. They are prone to oil leaks and other problems. There's a reason why taxis get super high mileage.

Amen, guys. To each his/her own. I cringe on the very rare occasion when mine sees rain (usually at a TBN event), but I'm not going to ridicule someone or tell them they're "doing it wrong" just because they drive theirs in the rain. We may not use our cars the same way, but we can at least meet on the common ground of loving the car, however we choose to do it.

Anybody know where the "Who has the least miles" thread can be found?
Maybe some of us could do some bragging there. Well, have 2,350 miles on my '05 Torch Red with Premium White HT. It's time to update that thread if any one can find it.

I have my car connected to a Battery Tender right now as we speak.
So is 3,000 miles for a 2005 considered a garage queen?

Yes in my book! I thought we have one of the lowest mileage 2005 "garage queens" with 7500 miles, but it looks like there might be quite a few that can beat that.

Just got my 2002 TBird last March, 22K miles. I keep it in a storage facility now and prob. will not break it out of jail till March or April. Luckily my caged bird is 3 miles away so I can visit her when ever I want and take her out on a ride. I see it like having a conjugal visit of sorts.

OUr '04 has 4,500 miles at this time. It sits the the RV garage mainly because we can only drive one at a time, and the Jeep GC get the main use.

Noah, She's not getting any younger. Your sparing conjugal visits will soon turn your budding spring time virgin into an old resentful prisoner who never got to experience the adventure of the open road.
